Creative Critical Reflection

1. How does your project use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? Our project made use of common conventions found in other coke commercials. A main convention that we made use of was the pop of a soda can that adds to the felling of refreshing and thirst quenching allure of an ice cold Coke. The project didn't directly represent any clear social issue but those involved are apart of Hispanic heritage and represent that culture. I myself being half Honduran. 2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? Our product is meant to show the allure of a fresh coke regardless of where you are. It engages with audiences in a nostalgic manner, promoting the feeling of finding a fresh Coke. The main allure of our commercial is to represent its refreshing nature. Because of this we would be more keen on representing this during Sports events or broadcasting. The commercial may persuade sports fans to

I really enjoyed making this video. It was a unique learning experience that I have never had before this class. I look forward to future projects. Enjoy the commercial and buy Coke.

Editing and viewing

The filming for our commercial went well. We encountered some minor problems like timing issues, weather, and curfews but all in all it went well. The issues we saw could have been avoided so next time well think more ahead to keep these from happening. After our filming done by our member Sean he sent the raw filming to our other member Brianna who was to be our editor. The acting was done by our members randy and I. Once sent to Brianna she was to condense the raw material into the final product. She also added background music as the wind that day was loud and could be heard in the background. Next she made sure that the sound of the coke opening was crisp. This was done because in our research we found that many coke commercials and soda commercials in general have the crisp sound of the can opening added. This makes the drink seem refreshing and is a staple. last she added a fade-in to the coke logo as it was being drank. This finished off the last part of our commercial and made

under the sunset

We made plans to meet on Saturday at 6:00 P.M. When the day came we were set to meet. One of our group was at the beach since the morning and told us that the weather had been questionable. The wind was picking up as the day went on so we didn't know if we were going to continue with our plans. As the time neared the wind had died down some but was still there. Two of us decided to get there early and set up the props before our other teammates showed up. Once 6 came around our entire group was there and we were ready to film. Our commercial was comprised of some scenes that had volleyball in it. As the wind picked up it made it increasingly difficult to hit the ball accurately. We ended up having to do many takes as the ball was hit wrong or out of bounds. Another problem we had was with our timing. We planned to film close to sunset as it would create a good background for our finishing shot. Do to doing many takes we were behind and had to film scenes out of order to make sure

Production delay

Our group has made plans to film in the future as we experienced some scheduling setbacks. The last few weeks have been difficult as we have had less face to face time to make plans for our production. There has been religious holidays as well as unexpected early release days. The main scheduling conflicts lies in the hurricane that hit Florida last week. The hurricanes impact on Florida left us without school and personally left me without access to power during parts of those days. The hurricane made my parents more vigilant over my movement outside of the home which made it nearly impossible to meet up. We had no choice but to wait for another opportunity. The weekend came and went and we had yet to communicate on a day to meet. We met during our class this week and decided to meet in the near future. The timing didn't align for us with our afterschool activities so we could not meet up during the week. While talking over the plan to meetup one of our members said they work nea

First scene- During this scene, we will be filming our arrival at the beach walking out with our supplies. The shot will be a wide shot showing the volleyball court and Jack and Randy carrying a cooler of drinks and a volleyball approaching it. We want a shot to set the scene involving the props and actors. Second scene-  In this scene Jack serves the ball to randy starting the game. The shot will be a Dutch shot angling from where jack is in the frame and serves to give people a perspective. This initiates the game at an angle like the ball is served. When we think of coke what comes to mind is a refreshing soda. Third scene- The third scene will be Randy hitting it back to Jack and it return jack hits it out of bounds. This shot will be a zoomed out two-shot shwoing the full court and both actors. This captures the game and the main game part of the commercial. Fourth scene- The fourth scenee will be the ball rolling into the cooler of cokes and Randy going to get it. This shot wi

Planning my commercial

Hi everyone! I'm Jack and I'm going to tell you about what we're planning for our commercial.  Props: Since we've agreed to do a Coca Cola commercial our main prop is going to be a Coca Cola can. Since we're shooting a beach we'll be using: Volley Ball Cooler Car Coca Cola Cans Beach towel Ice bag Costumes: In our commercial we'll have 2 main subjects Randy and Jack. Our actors will wear beach attire. They wear swimming trunks or regular shorts. A regular tee shirt or tank top. Preferably with light and vibrant colors. They could wet their hair in the ocean to fit the beach day look. However, if they're hair covers their face we could have our actors wear a headband. Last resort would be to have them tie their hair into a ponytail. For shoes they could either stay barefoot or wear sandals. Schedule: On 9/30/22, our group research conventions blog was completed for the commercial. On 10/4/22, our group completed the planning blog to establish the props

To research the Coca Cola commercials we began by doing the most logical thing; watching previous commercials. So we searched up the videos we could find of the more recent Coke commercials. In doing so we could see the commonalities and ideas we want to recreate.  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOMhOjgNd7Q "Open that Coca-Cola" This first commercial is filled with lots of vibrant colors, music, and creative dance numbers. The part that caught our eye was the scene where the female subject does the wave with her eyebrows. The camera then goes under the table to her feet and she begins dancing. Overall it was a light hearted  and fun which I admire.  2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VR9Iemy8SM "Turn up the Rhythm" Within the first scenes the camera shows a wide angle of a Coca Cola factory. The scenes show the making of a Coca Cola bottles being made. It then changes into two female subjects drinking the Coca Cola with the pop sound and slight sigh of enjoy
