Short film research:Traitor knight/drama

Hey there! The first short film I researched was a drama called Traitor Knight. This short film is set at a college fraternity house. In this film a brother in the house almost killed a student by making the student due a pledge task.  The student is in the hospital after falling off the roof of the frat house.  With the fate of the house and their college careers at stake, frat brother will turn on brother. This film uses many common conventions found in other drama films which makes it a drama.  A common sound used in this film were diegetic sound. For example, this film used diegetic sounds when Hunter was throwing things to make the scene more dramatic and intriguing to the audience. The use of diegetic sounds in this film helps add more exaggerated effects on the characters emotions. They also incorporate a lot of intense dialogue. For example, Hunter, the boy who gave the pledge task to another guy, got very upset when he found out he was kicked off the fraternity.  This is used to show reality and the emotion each character is feeling. There were also many common editing techniques found in this film that are found in the drama genre. One shot used a lot was the reverse shot since there was a lot of dialogue going on between the brothers. Reverse shots in drama are used in order to show the conversation between characters and to clearly show their facial expressions and body language.  This enhances the drama and makes the film more exaggerated. They also used a lot of closeup shots. Close up shots are used to show the audience what the character is thinking and get the audience to feel an emotion. Acting in this film was very intense and loud.  Throughout the whole film there was a lot of arguing and suspense on whether or not Hunter was going to get kicked out. I like the emotional rollercoaster created when watching these films because it leaves you wanting something to happen and it makes you want to keep on watching to see who does what. I also really like how simplistic the setting, makeup, etc. can be while also telling a great dramatic story. An element that does not appeal to me is that drama films may leave you with a sense of unease or worry that can be very unsettling, since most drama films do not have a happy or firm ending. In dramas there are either many cliff hangers in or the film takes the unconventional path leaving you unsatisfied and wanting more. Other drama films that use similar techniques are Dear Evan Hansen and Everything Everywhere All At Once.
